A user of social media site Facebook has been sent to prison for
online comments he posted regarding the murder of soldier Lee Rigby in
Woolwich, southeast London.
Benjamin Flatters, 22, from Lincoln, was sentenced to 14 days in prison for malicious communications.
Flatters learned of the judge’s decision at Skegness Magistrates’ Court.
His arrest came after members of the public alerted police to the
content he had written on the website, which was perceived as
potentially inciting racial hatred.
Rigby, 25, was killed on May 22 – the two main suspects of his murder
are Michael Adebolajo, 28, and Michael Adebowale, 22. Both men claim to
have committed the act out of religious beliefs.
Lincolnshire Police said they would treat any comments made online as
serious, which would lead to “robust action” in cases that breach the
law.

Woolwich Terror Attack: Michael Adebowale Saw Friend 'Literally Sliced To Pieces' In 2008 Plus His Mother 'Tried To Prevent Radicalisation'
Michael Adebowale, one of the suspects in the Woolwich murder of Drummer Lee Rigby, saw a friend “literally sliced to pieces” when they were both teenagers.
Lee James, a bare-knuckle fighter who was suffering from a
drug-induced psychotic episode, murdered 18-year-old Faridon Alizada in
2008 and also stabbed Adebowale, then 16.
The Old Bailey heard that the youths were members of the "Woolwich Boys" gang.
The judge said that the dead man had been literally cut to pieces in an early morning attack at a flat in Erith, southeast London.
Reports today also say Adebowale's mother sought help from a local mosque because she feared her son was going off the rails after he dropped out of university nine months ago.
