Last night tribute was paid to an Irish climber who was struck by lightning and killed while leading a group up Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.
Ian McKeever, 42, was leading 23 Irish charity climbers up the
19,340ft peak, Africa’s highest on December 30, when the incident happened. It is understood a number of them also
needed medical attention. Lecturer and broadcaster Mr McKeever also climbed the world’s seven highest peaks in a record 155 days in
2007, including reaching the summit of Everest.
