Hill will not only serve time behind bars, but will also be sentenced to three additional months of home confinement. During the hearing Monday, the singer reportedly reiterated her intentions to pay off her debt, but was unable to during a period of time when she dropped out of the music business.
"I needed to be able to earn so I could pay my taxes, without compromising the health and welfare of my children, and I was being denied that", Hill said.
The 37-year-old former Fugee pleaded guilty last year to three counts of tax evasion for failing to file returns on $1.8 million she earned from 2005 to 2007. Lauryn's attorney asked for mercy because of her charity work and 6 kids ... but the judge wasn't buying it.
Before the sentencing, her attorney had said Hill had paid more than $970,000 to satisfy the state and federal tax liabilities.
The judge ordered Hill to report to prison by July 8, but it's unclear where she will serve her time.
